My
Teaching Philosphy

Ongoing Professional Learning

Ongoing Professional Learning

My teaching philosophy as an Educator stems from the OCT Standard of Practice of Ongoing Professional Learning. I am dedicated to improving my own skills as an Educator to help my students strive to their fullest potential. My role as an Educator is to encourage the lifelong learning of my students. This learning experience is fostered through my dedication through teaching using a variety of instructional strategies such as differentiation, modelling, hands-on experience, classroom discussion, creation and exploration, and a meaningful connection to the Ontario curriculum.

The Learning Environment

The Learning Environment

I am committed to creating a diverse, versatile, and welcoming learning environment that fosters a safe and brave space for all my learners. I recognize the learning environment as the third teacher and its role in being reflective of students’ learning. I value creative thinking and open-minded discussion to both challenge and nurture my learners. I believe students are active participants in their learning and I aspire to create a student-centred learning environment in which students can build on their own learning as individuals. My learning environment will offer a rich variety of resources that empower student learning in whichever mode best suits their learning needs.

Inquiry-Based Learning

Inquiry-Based Learning

I hope to instil a passion for learning in each student I teach. My students will be able to improve on their challenges and build on areas of strength in my classroom with self-reflective learning. Inclusion will always be of utmost importance in my classroom for my learners. Promoting a model of inquiry-based learning in my classroom will allow my learners to transform their wondering and questioning into larger ideas that can help them make connections to their own learning, building upon their prior knowledge and experiences.

Culturally Responsive Educator

Culturally Responsive Educator

As a life-longer learner, my commitment to ongoing professional learning is informed by my ongoing educational research, collaboration with others, experience in and outside of the classroom and knowledge on a complex range of topics. Through continuous inquiry, dialogue, and reflection, I believe that as a Culturally Responsive Educator I will be able to foster an imaginative, exciting and encouraging learning experience for all students.
